3S Swiss Solar Solutions AG has officially opened its second photovoltaic (PV) module production facility in its home country, with the expectation to start first deliveries from the site at the end of the month.

The new factory is located in Worb, near the capital of Bern, and was built at a total cost of over CHF 10 million (USD 11.6m/EUR 10.7m), the Switzerland-based manufacturer said on Friday. The 250 MW of production capacity was installed in 11 months.

3S Swiss Solar will make its 3S solar modules at the new facility and will keep running its existing factory in Thun, in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland.

The Worb plant could be potentially expanded to produce larger volumes of PV modules, as well as larger cell formats. The site will also host a company representative office and training premises.

The Swiss PV product maker will hold an open day at the new factory on May 25. According to it, the facility is currently the most modern solar module production hub in Europe.
