Infener to set up 20-MW green hydrogen hub in Germany
Sep 17, 2024 14:59 CESTSwitzerland-based ABB (VTX:ABBN) has teamed up with Hydrogene de France (HDF) to jointly produce big fuel cell systems that will be used in the shipping industry.
The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the new product. It will be based on a megawatt-scale fuel cell power plant that ABB has developed together with Canada’s Ballard Power Systems.
The new system will be produced at HDF’s new factory in Bordeaux, France. The megawatt-scale product will be capable of powering ocean-going vessels. If renewables are used for the production of hydrogen, the entire energy chain can be clean, ABB said.
“With the ever-increasing demand for solutions that enable sustainable, responsible shipping, we are confident that fuel cells will play an important role in helping the marine industry meet CO2 reduction targets,” commented Juha Koskela, managing director of ABB Marine & Ports.
