Marmen to restart wind tower production for 350-MW Quebec project
Sep 18, 2024 16:11 CESTFeb 18, 2014 - Swiss engineering group ABB (VTX:ABBN) has received an order worth around USD 60 million (EUR 43.7m) for the upgrade of Hydro-Quebec's ultra-high voltage transmission system.
The overhaul of the system, which helps transport of clean hydroelectric power from North to South Quebec, will substantially reduce electrical losses, said Claudio Facchin, head of ABB’s Power Systems division.
Under the deal, ABB will upgrade two Static Var Compensators (SVC), a set of electrical devices that help control dynamic voltage swings. The SVCs are located at the Albanel substation, about 500 kilometres (311 miles) north of Montreal.
The upgrade is scheduled to be completed by 2016.
No financial details were disclosed.
