Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTSwiss power and automation group ABB (VTX:ABBN) has won an order to supply high-voltage direct current (HVDC) converter stations for a 1.3-GW link that will carry hydropower from generation sites in the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan to consumption areas in Pakistan.
The USD-330 million (EUR 280m) order for the converter stations in Tajikistan and Pakistan will be executed together with Spanish engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company Cobra, which will build and install the associated substations.
The contract is supported by the World Bank and is part of the CASA-1000 project, which will aid electricity trade between the countries of Central Asia and South Asia. The 800-km (497 mile) link will help the Pakistan government tackle the growing demand for power and, at the same time, allow the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan to take greater advantage of their hydropower resources.
The countries that take part in the project are Afghanistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan and Tajikistan.
