Abengoa to build USD 12m solar plant for Chile's El Tesoro

(ADPnews) - Jun 14, 2011 - Spanish engineering company Abengoa (MCE:ABG) will build a USD 12 million (EUR 8.3m) concentrated solar power plant in northern Chile that will supply local miner Minera El Tesoro, Abengoa said yesterday.
The plant, to be built in the Atacama desert, will have a solar field of 1,280 collectors. It will be able to supply heat in an efficient and sustainable way to the production processes of El Tesoro, Abengoa said.
The plant will enable El Tesoro to reduce its current use of fossil fuel by over 50% and its annual emissions by nearly 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2).
El Tesoro is controlled by Chilean copper mining company Antofagasta Minerals, the mining division of Antofagasta plc (LON:ANTO).
