Able UK gets Liebherr crane for offshore renewables complex

Feb 21, 2014 - Able UK has taken delivery of a mobile crane made by German heavy machinery producer Liebherr Group, which will be used at a planned offshore renewable technologies hub on the South bank of the Humber Estuary in England.

The multi-million Leibherr LHM600SHL crane was shipped from Rostock, Germany, Able UK said in a statement on Wednesday. The machine, which has a lifting capacity of 208 tonnes and an increased fulcrum height, will be used for handling structures for the offshore wind segment, and will also facilitate the maintenance of offshore oil and gas drilling rigs and support other port-related operations.

Able UK’s GBP-450-million (USD 749m/EUR 547m) offshore renewable technologies complex will include quayside facilities built for the manufacture, assembly and installation of offshore renewables equipment. Construction works are to commence early in 2014, while the quay will be ready to start operations near the end of 2016, Able UK said previously.
