PNE wins 24 MW of onshore wind projects in German auction
Sep 19, 2024 8:35 CESTGerman renewables developer ABO Wind AG (ETR:AB9) will implement a hydrogen project that will combine a 4.8-MW wind turbine and a 5-MW electrolyser in the industrial park Hessisches Kegelspiel in Huenfeld in Hesse, Germany.
The project will further include a hydrogen refuelling station for lorries and buses, with the possibility to also transport part of the hydrogen via mobile storage trailers to customers elsewhere. The electrolyser is planned to be expanded to 7.5 MW after five years.

The project is supported with about EUR 12 million (USD 13m) by the German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport under the National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Innovation Programme.
"The direct connection line between the wind turbine and the electrolyser is extremely innovative. It makes it possible to adjust the hydrogen production according to the wind supply," said ABO Wind board member Jochen Ahn. When there is no wind, the electrolyser can be powered by the grid.
The company has already submitted an approval application for the project’s wind turbine.
The initiative stems from the HyExpert category project HyWheels that was unveiled in 2019 and seeks to make East Hesse a hub for carbon-neutral logistics.
