Bloomberg to cover needs in continental Europe with solar from EDPR
Sep 03, 2024 15:33 CESTSpanish food casings and packaging manufacturer Viscofan SA (BME:VIS) has selected Acciona Energia (BME:ANE) to install a 48.1-MWp solar photovoltaic self-consumption system at its facilities in the region of Navarre, northern Spain.
With a nominal capacity of 40.1 MW at the connection point and 45 MW in inverters, the system will be one of the largest industrial solar self-consumption installations in Spain, according to Viscofan. The initiative has been recognised as a project of regional interest by the government of Navarre, the food sector company said.

Acciona Energia, a Spanish renewables pure-player, will install the system under a power purchase agreement (PPA), providing energy-as-a-service (EaaS) to Viscofan’s facilities in the town of Caseda. The project will also entail the development of infrastructure necessary to connect the solar panels to the internal grid at the Caseda site.
The electricity generated by the solar arrays will be used to power electric boilers at the facility, resulting in a 50,306-tonne reduction in carbon dioxide emissions annually. Viscofan expects the self-consumption system to meet around 30% of its electricity needs in Caseda.
Acciona Energia will provide the service for 30 years.
