Acciona Energia (BME:ANE) on Wednesday announced the signing of a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA) through which it will supply wind energy to Spanish glass packaging maker Vidrala SA (BME:VID).

The PPA will enter into force in January 2025. From then on, the Spanish renewables company will begin supplying electricity from its wind farms to power Vidrala’s factories at three sites in Spain and one in Portugal.

The contract will enable Vidrala’s to cover 20% to 25% of its electricity needs over the next decade, Acciona Energia said.

The PPA is part of Acciona Energia’s commercial strategy to increase the number of medium- to long-term of contracts in Spain. The company aims to have around 80% of its electricity volume under contracts as opposed to the volumes in the wholesale market.

For Vidrala, the PPA will complement its self-consumption projects and purchases of guarantees of origin as it moves towards reaching the 100% carbon-free electricity target by 2030.

Vidrala’s factories in Portugal have been purchasing green power from the Acciona Group since 2018.
