Spanish renewables company Acciona Energia (BME:ANE) announced on Monday that it has secured a 12-year contract for difference (CfD) with Croatia’s power and gas regulator Hrvatski operator trzista energije (HROTE) for its 189-MWp Promina solar photovoltaic project in the country.

The CfD was awarded in a public auction as part of a support programme launched by the Croatian government and HROTE to hike renewables deployment in the country in line with European decarbonisation targets.

The Promina project is currently in development. Acciona Energia will build the solar farm and a new substation at a site in the Sibenik-Knin county, southern Croatia, expecting to commission the facilities in 2027. The plant will feature more than 300,000 solar panels and will generate 320 GWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to the power needs of around 69,000 households.

Promina will be the largest solar farm in the country when it begins operations in three years, Acciona Energia said.

The project will join Acciona Energia’s other assets in Croatia, namely the 30-MW Jelinak wind farm, which has been in operation since 2013, and the Opor and Boraja II wind farms, currently under construction.

Opor and Boraja II, both benefiting from 12-year CfDs with HROTE, are due to come online in April and May 2025, respectively.
