Acciona Energy launches 45 MW wind farm in Canada

(ADPnews) – May 9, 2011 - Acciona Energy, a unit of Spanish Acciona (MCE:ANA), said on Friday its 45 MW Lameque wind power project in Canada is now commercially operational.

The CAD 115 million (USD 119m/EUR 83m) wind farm, located in the Acadian Peninsula of New Brunswick, has received an investment of up to CAD 13.79 million over ten years from the Canadian government's ecoENERGY for Renewable Power programme.

The project’s thirty 1.5 MW Acciona Windpower wind turbines are spread over some 3,100 acres (12.55 sq km). They will supply enough energy for about 8,000 homes a year. New Brunswick Power is the designated off-taker of the power, via a long-term power purchase agreement.

The Lameque wind power project is Acciona Energy’s fourth wind farm in Canada. The company owns and operates 136 MW in three wind farms in Canada with local partners Suncor and Enbridge. Two of the farms – Magrath and Chin Chute with a capacity of 30 MW each – are located in Alberta, and the 76 MW Ripley wind farm is in Ontario.
