Bahrain's Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) has awarded a contract to a group led by Saudi firm ACWA Power for the construction and operation of a 100-MW solar power plant.

The winning consortium includes ACWA Power, Japan’s Mitsui & Co Ltd (TYO:8031) and Bahrain industrial conglomerate AlMoayyed, local media report, quoting a statement from EWA. The price for power generation at which the group has won the contract is BHD 14.668 (USD 39.01/EUR 34.35) per MWh.

The signing of all related deals, including the power purchase agreement (PPA), will take place next month.

Other bidding parties included GS Engineering & Construction, Phelan Energy Group and Alfanar Contracting, according to local media.
