Data centre firm Teraco starts building 120-MW solar farm in S Africa
Nov 12, 2024 14:21 CESTACWA Power Co (TADAWUL:2082) on Monday announced the commissioning of 200-MW Kom Ombo solar park in Egypt and the partial grid-synchronisation for its Redstone concentrating solar power (CSP) plant in South Africa.
The Saudi renewables developer said that it has successfully synchronised the Redstone park with the South African power grid and is feeding electricity from half of the installed capacity. The plant’s total capacity of 100 MW is due to be reached in the coming days.
Located in South Africa’s Northern Cape province, the Redstone complex will be capable of producing power for nearly 200,000 homes annually once running at full power.
Meanwhile in Egypt, ACWA Power has launched operations at the Kom Ombo photovoltaic (PV) farm in Egypt, which will also have an output equal to the consumption of roughly 200,000 homes. The project was realised at a cost of about USD 182 million (EUR 168.3m).
The Saudi Arabian group, which has a global portfolio of 65 GW, has invested about USD 7 billion in projects across Africa, it noted.
