Saudi electricity producer and water desalination company ACWA Power Co (TADAWUL:2082) will complete the construction of the 200-MW Kom Ombo solar project in Egypt by April.

This was announced by Egypt's prime minister Mostafa Madbouly during his tour in the Aswan Governorate on Sunday.

The construction of the solar farm, totalling approximately USD 182 million (EUR 167.1m), achieved financial close in August 2023. Once up and running, Kom Ombo will supply 130,000 households and offset 280,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

In addition to the Kom Ombo solar project, ACWA Power is working on several larger initiatives in the Arab country. It is planning a 10-GW wind project and a USD-4-billion (EUR 3.67bn) green ammonia project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. In January, the Saudi developer signed a usufruct agreement with the Egyptian government for the development of a 1.1-GW wind project in the Gulf of Suez and Jabal El-Zeit.
