ADFD injects USD 105m in eight renewable projects

The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) on Sunday announced about USD 105 million (EUR 94m) in funding for eight renewable energy projects in developing countries under the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)/ADFD project facility.

The funding provided in the project facility's seventh cycle is the highest to date and brings the total in all cycles to USD 350 million. The ADFD confirmed the funding during the 10th IRENA Assembly.

The eight projects and the amounts they will receive are:

-- An 8-MW solar and wind park in Antigua and Barbuda, with USD 15 million in funding. About 5,500 homes are expected to benefit from the project.

-- A 3-MW solar power park in Burkina Faso, with USD 5.5 million in funding. About 40,000 people in rural areas will get clean power thanks to the project.

-- A 6-MW solar park in Chad, with USD 15 million in funding. Over 215,000 people in six cities are expected to benefit from the facility.

-- An 8.5-MW solar facility with 2 MW of energy storage in Isla de la Juventud, Cuba, with USD 20 million in funding. Some 32,300 people will benefit from the project.

-- An 1.5-MW waste-to-energy plant in Addu, the Maldives, with USD 14 million in funding. Some 35,000 people are expected to benefit from the project.

-- A project to create 20 biogas digesters as demonsrtation units in Nepal, with USD 10 million in funding.

-- The 10-MW Troumassee solar park, battery storage and solar power facilities across Saint Lucia, with USD 15 million in funding.

-- A 7-MW solar power system in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, with USD 10 million in funding. Some 2,444 homes will benefit from the project.
