AES completes 5.2-MWp solar plant in El Salvador AES El Salvador Opico Power PV plant

AES El Salvador and its unit AES Soluciones inaugurated on Friday a 5.2-MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in El Salvador.

The local unit of AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) invested USD 5 million (EUR 4.2m) in the Opico Power PV park. With its 12,834 solar panels and 24 inverters, the solar plant is expected to generate enough power to meet the annual demand of 11,000 local homes.

Covering a 50,000-sq-m (538,195 sq ft) area, Opico Power should be able to help AES to offset 2,371 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year. The solar farm also helps AES to achieve its target to reduce carbon emissions by 50% in all its operations by 2022, and by 70% by 2030, the company points out in the press release.

In order to fulfil its goal, AES El Salvador has made several investments in the country's clean energy market. In October 2019, together with Central-American company Corporacion Multi Inversiones (CMI), it switched on the 100-MW Bosforo plant, AES noted.
