MPC Capital commissions 43-MW solar farm in Dominican Republic
Sep 02, 2024 10:18 CESTAES Dominicana, part of US power generation group AES Corp (NYSE:AES), on Thursday inaugurated a 50-MW solar farm in the Dominican Republic.
Named AES Bayasol, the plant is AES Dominicana’s first 100% renewable energy project in the country, the Dominican Republic’s energy commission CNE said in a press release yesterday.
The power company invested around USD 60 million (EUR 49.5m) in the Bayasol scheme, which come on top of USD 1.8 billion that AES poured into the Dominican Republic in 24 years [since arriving], Juan Ignacio Rubiolo, AES Corp’s president for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, said in a statement.
In the next two years, AES will install more than 300 MW of renewables and add battery storage in the Dominican Republic, to complement the natural gas-based capacity, according to CNE’s release.
