US power generation group AES Corp (NYSE:AES) today revealed its solar installation robot Atlas with which it aims to increase the speed and efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) park construction and lower the cost.

The company designed the robot as part of a multi-year innovation programme and built it together with Calvary Robotics and other partners.

“Atlas will complement our skilled workforce by keeping them safe and performing the heavy lifting, placing and attachment of solar modules while adding new high-tech jobs,” AES said in a press release. It also released a video:

In addition to this first-of-its-kind solar robot, AES has also invested in solar robots from Ecoppia to automate the cleaning of PV panels, in 5B and its MAVERICK technology for plug and play solar farm installation, and in the world's first DC-coupled solar plus battery storage solutions providing dispatchable energy. AES is also combining different renewable energy technologies in order to be able to offer around the clock, 24/7 renewable power on an hourly basis.
