Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTThe African Development Fund, administered by the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, has approved funds to support renewables in Liberia, specifically for the construction of the 9.34-MW Gbedin Falls mini-hydro project.
The AfDB and the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) have authorised more than USD 33 million (EUR 29.9m), to be disbursed primarily in form of a grant, for the project called Renewable Energy for Electrification in Liberia.
The proceeds will be used for the construction of a mini dam on the Saint John River and the Gbedin Fall mini hydropower plant (HPP) in Nimba County in north-eastern Liberia. Electricity produced by the plant will reach 7,000 households through an 8-kilometre, 33-kV transmission line.
The project will enable grid expansion to isolated communities, help power up schools, health centres, businesses and industries while increasing the rural electrification rate in the West African country, the AfDB said.
