A multi-donor facility managed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) will grant USD-965,000 (EUR 883,000) to facilitate the development of a 20-MW off-grid solar project in Zimbabwe.

Oxygen Energy Pvt Ltd will get the funds from Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) for a project involving the installation of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) arrays on buildings owned and managed by Old Mutual Property Group Zimbabwe, the AfDB said on Friday.

The SEFA funds will be spent on technical feasibility work, and on seeking legal and financial advice. At the same time, the AfDB’s Africa Climate Technology Centre (ACTC) will cover the costs for environmental and social impact assessment and Grid Interconnection Study.

The goal of the project is to compensate for the substantial baseload lapses of the national grid and to provide reliable power to hundreds of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), the bank added.
