Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTThe government of Afghanistan has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with UAE-based firm PAL 4 Solar Energy LLC for a project that would generate up to 3,000 MW of solar power.
Afghan government-owned power company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) said in a brief statement that the solar plants would be constructed across the country.
Under the terms of the MoU, signed in the Afghan embassy in Abu Dhabi, the Emirati company will invest in the construction and installation of the plants.
DABS spokesperson Wahid Tawhidi said that PAL 4 Solar Energy would soon start initial and technical evaluation and then begin investment on the practical part of the project, the Afghanistan Times Daily reported.
According to Scaling Solar, the World Bank initiative to promote energy from photovoltaics, Afghanistan imports around 70% of its total power capacity from the neighbouring countries.
