Swedish energy and infrastructure consultancy AFRY (STO:AFRY) has been hired to make environmental and social impact assessments (ESIAs) for a portfolio of five large-scale solar projects with a combined capacity of 500 MW in Indonesia.

The contract was sealed with PT PLN Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of Indonesia’s state electricity company PT PLN, the Swedish firm said in a statement on Monday.

AFRY has so far provided environmental and social advisory services for more than 5 GW of renewable energy and power sector projects In Indonesia. The newly signed contract concerns a portfolio comprising three floating solar systems and two ground-mounted plants to be located on Java Island.

The planned solar sites are part of PT PLN’s Proyek Hijaunesia 2023, an initiative for the construction of multiple solar and wind power projects on the islands of Java and Bali and the semi-autonomous province of Aceh. The projects will be realised in partnership with investors with PT PLN remaining as the majority owner of each asset to be built.
