A unit of Swedish energy and infrastructure consultancy AFRY (STO:AFRY) has won a contract to provide consultancy services on several large-scale onshore wind projects totalling up to 1,200 MW that are being developed by Latvian state-owned energy provider Latvenergo AS.

The estimated value of the order for AFRY amounts to SEK 55 million (USD 5.18m/EUR 4.70m), according to a statement published Thursday.

The contract was secured by BLIX through an international tender process and has a five-year term from July 2023 until July 2028. It envisages the provision of consultancy services throughout all project development phases, from the initial project assessment to the development of the operation and maintenance (O&M) and decommissioning strategy of each site.

The portfolio of projects, dubbed Latvijas vēja parki SIA, is seen to become operational by 2030. Once all facilities are commissioned, they are expected to produce enough power to meet the needs of about 1.3 million -1.95 million households in the Baltics.

Latvijas Veja parki Sia is a joint venture of Latvenergo and local state-run forests operator Latvijas valsts meži AS established in July 2022. It seeks to commission between 800 MW-1,200 MW of capacity by 2030 in line with the country’s National Energy and Climate Plan 2021-2030.

The joint venture, which is majority owned by Latvenergo with an 80% stake, has a share capital of EUR 2 million (USD 2.20m), according to an earlier statement.
