A joint venture between starch and sugar producer Agrana Beteiligungs-AG (VIE:AGR) and wholesale company RWA Raiffeisen Ware Austria AG has installed a 556-kWp solar array on top of a fruit juice concentrate plant in Lower Austria.

Agrana said in a statement today that this is the second of four production sites in Austria that will be equipped with large-scale photovoltaic (PV) systems this year. The company aims to become climate neutral by 2040.

The rooftop PV installation in Kroellendorf, in the Mostviertel, was handled by a subsidiary of RWA called RWA Solar Solutions GmbH. It will also be the one to own and operate the system, which will generate some 540,000 kWh of electricity annually.

The Agrana-RWA JV, called Austria Juice GmbH, will produce fruit juice concentrates, fruit purees and natural flavours as well as basic beverage materials and not-from-concentrate juices for the beverage industry at the facility in Kroellendorf.
