Air Liquide pockets EUR 500m from green bond placement Air Liquide inaugurates a pilot site for the production of carbon-free hydrogen in Denmark

French industrial gases company Air Liquide SA (EPA:AI) has raised EUR 500 million (USD 542.6m) from a green bond sale to back projects related to the production of low-carbon hydrogen and low-carbon air gases and carbon capture.

The deal, arranged under the company’s Euro Medium Term Note (EMTN) programme, was significantly oversubscribed, according to a statement on Thursday. The bonds mature in 10 years, on May 29, 2034, and have an annual coupon of 3.375%.

The raised proceeds will go to finance or refinance flagship energy transition and sustainable projects and to support Air Liquide's long-term growth strategy “at very competitive financial conditions.”

The transaction follows Air Liquide’s maiden green bond issue in 2021, also worth EUR 500 million. “The success of this second green bond issuance illustrates the investors’ confidence in Air Liquide’s ability to implement technologies and pioneer projects that contribute to the decarbonization of our activities as well as help our customers lower their carbon footprint,” commented CFO Jerome Pelletan.

Air Liquide and its joint venture partner Siemens Energy AG, last November opened a gigawatt-scale electrolyser factory in Berlin, preparing a ramp-up in production to 3 GW annually by 2025.
