Elawan bags Google PPA for 37-MW solar project in Texas
Sep 19, 2024 13:49 CESTIndustrial gas supplier Air Liquide (EPA:AI) has committed to procuring electricity from the recently inaugurated 1.5-GW Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm in the Netherlands, securing 70% of its existing electricity consumption in Benelux.
The French company said on Tuesday it will be supplied with electricity from 115 MW of the wind complex’s capacity under a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Swedish state-owned utility Vattenfall AB. The latter owns Hollandse Kust Zuid along with German companies BASF SE (ETR:BAS) and Allianz Capital Partners.

The 15-year PPA will start in 2026 and will bring the total renewable energy capacity contracted by Air Liquide in Benelux to 270 MW. The French firm estimates that the PPAs signed within the economic union of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg will enable it to cut its carbon footprint by up to 8.5 million tonnes during the agreed deal terms.
“This new large-scale PPA with Vattenfall marks an important milestone in securing renewable energy to enable Air Liquide to provide low-carbon solutions to its customers and support their decarbonisation efforts,” said Emilie Mouren-Renouard, CEO of Air Liquide’s Europe Industries Hub.
The 139-turbine Hollandse Kust Zuid in the North Sea generated first power in August 2022 and is expected to be fully operational in 2024.
