Akaysha Energy Pty Ltd, the Aussie battery energy developer backed by BlackRock Inc (NYSE:BLK), has energised the substation connected to its 850-MW/1,680-MWh Waratah Super Battery (WSB) energy storage project in New South Wales, Australia.

The move sets the stage for the testing and commissioning of the battery energy storage system (BESS) and, eventually, for the delivery of system integrity protection scheme (SIPS) services to the local electrical network.

The energisation of the 330-kV Waratah substation was facilitated from Transgrid’s Munmorah Substation, a press statement said today.

The Waratah BESS is located at the site of the decommissioned Lake Munmorah coal-fired power complex in New South Wales’ Central Coast region. The project is owned by Akaysha and realised together with delivery partners Consolidated Power Projects, Transgrid, Powin and eks Energy.
