French renewable power producer and developer Akuo has launched a crowdfunding campaign with an initial target of EUR 1 million (USD 1.1m), aiming to back the operation of a 4-MWp solar complex in Greece.

The funds will be raised via the recently established AkuoCoop by Lendosphere portal, which Akuo runs together with Paris-based Lendosphere. The initiative kicked off on Wednesday and is open to all European citizens. Interested investors will be able to participate with a minimum amount of EUR 100.

The project to benefit from the fundraising campaign is located in the Thessaly region of northern Greece, near the town of Larissa. The complex covers 8 ha (20 acres) of land and consists of four photovoltaic (PV) plants, namely Tsairia, Zappeio 1024, Zappeio 1008 and Foniades. All of them were commissioned last year and are expected to have a combined output of roughly 6.3 GWh annually, equal to the demand of about 570 households.

The PV complex was installed as part of a broader initiative that will see Akuo deploy 500 MW of PV capacity in Thessaly, supporting Greeceā€™s goal of lifting the share of renewables in the national energy mix to over 80% by 2030.
