A joint venture comprising Albania-based EU Green Energy, A.91 and Winpharma has applied for a building permit for a wind farm in the southern administrative unit of Jorgucat, near the city of Gjirokastra, the energy ministry said.

The wind farm will have an installed capacity of up to 20 MW, the ministry said in a notice last week.

The ministry provided no details about the estimated cost and implementation timetable of the project.

In June, Albania launched its first public call for the construction of utility-scale on-shore wind power plants with a total capacity of 100 MW, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said. The Albanian government invites developers of individual projects with a capacity of between 10 MW and 75 MW to apply with proposals for sites in the first phase of the tender by the middle of June next year, the EBRD said in a statement at the time. The government is expected to announce the successful bidders in the first half of 2023.
