TIRANA (Albania), November 4 (SeeNews) – A joint venture comprising Albania-based companies Blessed Investment and Matrix Konstruksion has applied for a building permit for a photovoltaic park in the area of Sheq Marinas, near the southwestern city of Fier, the energy ministry said.

The solar park is expected have an installed capacity of up to 50 MW, the ministry said in a notice published on its website last week.

The ministry provided no details about the estimated cost and implementation timetable of the project.

In late July, the government signed a contract for the construction and operation of a 140 MW photovoltaic park in Karavasta coastal area in the region of Fier with French renewables company Voltalia.

Albania produces over 90% of its electricity from hydro power plants, with most of it generated at three power stations along the Drin river, in the northern part of the country.
