Alternus scraps deal for 80-MWp solar project purchase in US
Sep 20, 2024 7:40 CESTFrench renewable energy producer Albioma SA (EPA:ABIO) said on Friday it has received the green light to convert a 34-MW power plant in Guadeloupe from coal to biomass.
French energy regulator CRE has approved the terms of a draft amendment to the power purchase agreement (PPA) between Albioma and French electric utility EDF SA (EPA:EDF) that is tied to the Albioma Caraibes power plant.
The regulator has determined that converting the facility to run on biomass will increase the share of renewables in Guadeloupe's energy mix to about 35% from 20.5% in 2017.
Currently, the plant generates some 260 GWh of power per year, which represents around 15% of the island’s total consumption. The planned conversion will reduce the plant’s annual atmospheric emissions by more than 265,000 tonnes equivalent carbon dioxide (CO2).
