Albioma says solar PV plants survive hurricanes Irma, Maria

Albioma says solar PV plants survive hurricanes Irma, Maria Albioma’s first solar power plant with integrated storage has been installed on the roof of a shopping centre in Saint-Pierre, on Reunion Island. All rights reserved.

French power producer Albioma SA (EPA:ABIO) said its biomass and solar power plants on the Caribbean islands have sustained minimal damage following the Irma and Maria hurricanes.

The company’s 14 MWp of photovoltaic plants in Guadeloupe and Martinique only sustained minor damage. However, with no connection to the power grid certain solar power installations had to stop production, and some of them are currently inaccessible because of the state of the roads.

The construction site for the Galion 2 bagasse/biomass power plant was left relatively unscathed, the company noted in a news release yesterday.

Albioma hopes to bring all of its power plants back in operation over the next few days, as soon as the power grid is restored.

Back in August, the power producer won 11 projects at a French tender for solar plus storage in Corsica and France's overseas departments and territories.

Albioma also also plans to build four PV systems, each with a capacity of 250 kWp, in La Réunion, another four 250 kWp systems and a 1.5 MWp plant in Mayotte as well as a 250 kWp solar energy plant in Guadeloupe by 2018.
