French renewable energy producer Albioma Sa (EPA:ABIO) informed on Wednesday that its 1.34-MW Port Ouest solar photovoltaic (PV) plant with a 1.33-MWh battery storage system built in Reunion had been in service since late February.

Located in the town of Le Port in the northwest corner of Reunion, the Port Ouest project emerged as the winner in the call for tenders for innovative PV and storage solutions organised by the French energy market regulator CRE in 2016, Albioma said.

The Port Ouest plant will produce 1.9 GWh each year, equivalent to the annual consumption of 630 local households. It will sell electricity to French utility Electricite de France SA (EPA:EDF) under a 25-year contract.
