Algeria has identified 11 sites for the development of the "Solar 1,000" project that includes the construction of solar plants with a total capacity of 1 GW, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies said on Tuesday.

The sites have a total area of 4,250 hectares (10,502 acres) and were selected with the active participation of the provinces concerned by the project including El Bayadh, Ouargla, El Oued, El M'Ghair, Ghardaia and Bechar.

A task force has been set up to prepare the papers necessary for the investors who will participate in the tenders for the "Solar 1,000" project which should be launched by the end of this year, the ministry said.

The task force has also outlined the appropriate financial terms for the project.

The ministry expects also the launch of the Algerian renewable energy company Shaems which will be involved in the implementation of the project.
