Astronergy secures 1 GW of solar module orders in Algeria
Sep 03, 2024 14:46 CESTAs many as 111 investors from 15 countries have expressed interest in participating in the tenders for the deployment of 1 GWp of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in Algeria, the Secretary-General of Algeria's Ministry of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy said on Sunday.
The number of investors could grow further in the coming days as the deadline for the submission of bids was extended to June 15 from April 30, Mahama Bouziane has said.
Bouziane affirmed that Algeria is betting on renewable energy and solar power in particular, as an alternative to fossil energy. The project known as Solar 1,000, will support the North African country's plan to reach 15 GW of green power generation capacity by 2035.
Algeria launched the tenders for the 1-GWp scheme at the end of December, targeting the allocation of capacity in lots of between 50 MW and 300 MW. As many as 11 sites have already been selected for the solar plants.
Each developer is allowed to bid for one or more batches of 300 MW in total. The winners will be awarded a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
