All 47 turbines for the 376-MW Formosa 2 offshore wind project in Taiwanese waters have been installed, shareholders of the development said on Wednesday.

The wind farm has been under construction off the coast of the Miaoli County since October 2019. The last of its Siemens Gamesa 8-MW DD wind turbines was installed on Tuesday, Taiwanese offshore wind player Synera Renewable Energy, formerly Swancor, said.

Formosa 2 produced first power in July 2022. Synera said that over 80% of its installed turbines are feeding power to the grid.

Japan’s JERA Co Ltd, the largest shareholder of the project, said separately that the wind farm would achieve commercial operation later this year.

JERA holds a 49% stake in the Formosa 2 project, Macquarie Group Ltd (ASX:MQG) via Green Investment Group owns 26%, with Synera owning the remaining 25%.
