Spanish company Almirall SA (BME:ALM) has completed the construction of an 800-kWp photovoltaic (PV) array that should cover 12% of the electricity demand of its pharmaceutical plant in Barcelona.

The solar system was installed on the roof of the facility in Sant Andreu de la Barca, as well as on the canopies of the parking lot and on the ground.

The array is expected to generate enough power to meet the average annual consumption of around 350 homes and offset 479 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. It is expected to reduce Almirall's dependence on the grid by over 1,200 MWh per year.

With this solar system, Almirall complies with its goal of improving its energy performance. Last year, it installed its first solar array in Spain, connecting it directly to the chemical plant in Sant Celoni, it noted.
