US renewable energy analytics company Alta Energy said on Tuesday it has acquired Sovereign Modular, a business that provides solar power systems to public schools in California.

Alta Energy noted that this acquisition allows the company to start offering fast-track permitting for solar photovoltaic (PV) installations on buildings within the public school system.

The transaction includes a contract with California’s Poway Unified School District (PUSD) to install 715 kW of solar arrays on modular classrooms on 16 PUSD campuses. This project will supply electricity for over 10,000 students and reduce power costs by 13%, saving PUSD more than USD 5 million (EUR 4.5m) over the 20-year life of the power purchase agreement (PPA).

As part of this transaction, Sovereign Modular's CEO Marc Roper will become the new vice president of marketing at Alta Energy.
