Aluminium of Greece, owned by Greek industrial conglomerate Mytilineos SA (ATHEX:MYTIL), has committed to covering all of its power requirements from renewable energy by 2030.

The aluminum producer has signed a power supply agreement with Greek utility Public Power Corporation SA (ATH:PPC), or PPC, its parent said in a bourse filing last week and pointed out that this will be the last such contract for the two companies. The deal will run from the beginning of July through the end of 2023.

“For us, after 2023, a new era begins for the historic factory of "Aluminum of Greece": a green and sustainable era, spearheading with national climate goals and the European Green Deal,” said Mytilineos’ chairman and CEO Evangelos G Mytilineos.

Mytilineos aims to cut the absolute carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of its metallurgy business by 65% and the emissions across all of its activities by 30% by 2030. Its ultimate objective is to become carbon neutral by 2050.
