AMEA, Philadelphia Solar bring online 50-MW solar park in Jordan

Dubai-based clean energy company AMEA Power today announced the commissioning of its 50-MW Al Husainiyah solar farm in Jordan, its second renewable power plant in the Kingdom.

AMEA Power realised the scheme in partnership with Jordan-based Philadelphia Solar, which owns a 30% interest. The duo secured the project in the second round of Jordan’s renewables feed-in-tariff (FiT) programme.

Located in Ma’an Governorate, the photovoltaic (PV) plant is powered by more than 200,000 panels made locally by Philadelphia Solar. Its annual output is expected to be enough to cover the consumption of about 50,000 households.

Financing for the project was provided by Dutch development bank FMO and German development finance institution DEG.

AMEA Power now has 100 MW of renewable power capacity in operation in Jordan. In July, it brought online the 50-MW Abour wind park in Tafila Governorate under a joint venture with Xenel Industries of Saudi Arabia. The UAE company said it expects to achieve financial close “imminently” on 1.2 GW of wind and solar projects in Egypt, Tunisia, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.
