Dubai-based renewables developer and operator AMEA Power LLC has tied up with Mozambique’s Hidropower to develop a 125-MWp solar project in the East African country.

A partnership agreement for the collaboration was signed on the sidelines of the recently held COP28 climate summit, Dubai International Chamber announced on Friday. The organisation supported AMEA Power with guidance on investment procedures and business requirements in Mozambique.

The Matambo photovoltaic (PV) project is AMEA Power’s first endeavour in the African country’s renewable energy market. The scheme is estimated to require up to USD 150 million (EUR 137.7m) in investments and will be supported by Mozambique's National Investment Bank (BNI).

Once in operation, the Matambo park will be able to generate electricity for more than 150,000 local homes, offsetting around 232,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.

“Africa is a highly important strategic market, and we remain committed to identifying new opportunities on the continent, as well as priority markets worldwide that hold strong potential for businesses in Dubai,” said Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers.
