Dubai-based clean power producer AMEA Power announced today it has achieved financial close for a 26.6-MW solar project in Burkina Faso.

AMEA Power’s fully-owned unit Zina Solaire will be building the solar park in the village of Zina in the Mouhoun province. The facility will be able to generate enough power to meet the annual consumption of more than 43,000 people.

The project has a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with national utility Sonabel, signed under a public-private partnership framework. It is financed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the IFC-Canada Climate Change Program and the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF), a member of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG).

The West African country is looking to add over 500 MW of capacity by 2025, according to Hussain Al Nowais, chairman of AMEA Power.
