AMEA Power has completed solar module installation at its 500-MW Abydos photovoltaic (PV) park in Egypt and successfully energised the 220-kV substation that will connect the site to the complex to the national grid.

The Dubai-based renewables developer said in a LinkedIn post on Monday that one million modules have been mounted at the site in Kom Ombo, Aswan governorate.

The Abydos park is anticipated to generate roughly 1,500 GWh of electricity per year, covering the annual power requirements of more than 256,000 homes. Its generation is also expected to offset 783,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. AMEA Power will sell the produced electricity under power purchase agreements with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC).

The Abydos Solar Power Company (ASPC), which is wholly owned by AMEA Power, managed the construction of the PV farm and will own and run the plant.

This summer, AMEA Power secured governmental approval to connect 2,000 MW of renewable energy capacity to Egypt's power grid by the summer of 2025. The Abydos project was part of that package.
