US cleantech integrator Ameresco Inc (NYSE:AMRC) and Athens-based solar EPC contractor are set to build the 560-MWp Enipeas solar farm in Greece for Lightsource bp, a joint press release said on Thursday.

The builders’ joint venture (JV), Ameresco Sunel Energy SA, has been appointed for the job, which will entail the construction of two clusters -- a 400-MWp southern cluster called Skopia, and the 160-MW northern cluster Kalithea. The complex, featuring nearly 970,000 solar panels, will be located in the regions of Larissa and Fthiotida.

Considered to be one of Europe’s largest solar projects, Enipeas represents a total investment of EUR 395.15 million (USD 429m). Lightsource bp has allocated EUR 79.82 million of its own funds to bankroll the project, while the rest of the financing came from Greek lender Eurobank and the European Union’s Covid recovery and resilience facility.

Ameresco Sunel Energy and Lightsource bp expect Enipeas to be finalised within 18 to 24 months. Once up and running, the solar farm will generate approximately 0.90 TWh of electricity per year, or enough to power 225,000 households.
