US energy efficiency and renewables company Ameresco Inc (NYSE:AMRC) has agreed to acquire Italian peer Enerqos Energy Solutions S.r.l. in a drive to expand its presence in Europe.

Milan-based Enerqos selects, designs and creates energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, such as solar parks, biomass heating systems, cogeneration plants and LED systems installation, among others.

The value of the deal remained undisclosed. Completion is expected in March.

Established in 2000, Ameresco provides energy infrastructure upgrades and builds and operates renewable energy plants.

The deal for Enerqos marks the US firm's latest inorganic growth investment in Europe where it is actively expanding its portfolio.

Ameresco in November bought a 5-MW wind farm in Ireland. The Framingham, Massachusetts-based firm is also already present in the UK and Greece.
