Amonix launches 2 MW facility at University of Arizona's Solar Zone

(ADPnews) - Apr 29, 2011 - US solar system company Amonix yesterday opened a 2-MW power facility in the Solar Zone of the Science and Technology Park at the University of Arizona.
The plant is powered by 36 of the company's concentrated photovoltaic solar power systems and will generate enough power to meet the needs of over 500 homes, avoiding more than 5,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
The facility was built in partnership with the University of Arizona Science and Technology Park and Tucson Electric Power (TEP) and is the first of a number of privately owned, utility-scale schemes set to come on-stream in the Tucson region that will provide power for TEP customers. TEP has committed to purchasing the production of 10 systems with overall capacity of 127 MW. It has agreed to buy electricity from Amonix's plant for 20 years.
