PNE wins 24 MW of onshore wind projects in German auction
Sep 19, 2024 8:35 CESTTransmission system operator (TSO) Amprion has begun the construction of the DolWin4 and BorWin4 offshore grid connection projects in northern Germany that will transport power from offshore wind farms in the North Sea to the mainland.
Work on the two offshore grid connections has commenced in Lingen and Wietmarschen, Lower Saxony, where construction sites are currently being established, Amprion said on Tuesday.
The two power lines end in Lingen and run parallel to the A-Nord direct current connection between Emden and Wietmarschen. At the Ems-Vechte-West area, A-Nord and the two offshore lines diverge, and civil engineering work from there to the converter station in Lingen will begin in mid-August.
The Tief4 consortium, commissioned by Amprion, will first construct a cable protection pipe system into which the power cables will later be installed.
Starting in late June, the pipe strings for the cable protection pipe system will be pre-welded, with installation set to begin in mid-August. This process includes sections built using the closed construction method, primarily the horizontal directional drilling method, as well as sections using the open construction method.
DolWin4 and BorWin4, both designed with a capacity of 900 MW, are intended to operate largely in parallel and are slated to go online in 2028. DolWin4 will span around 215 km, including about 60 km of submarine cables beneath Norderney Island. In contrast, BorWin4 will cover a total distance of roughly 280 km, with around 125 km of its route submerged underwater.
