Anglian Water backs net-zero goal with 35-MW solar deal with NextEnergy

UK investment and asset manager NextEnergy Capital Group announced on Monday it will add more than 35 MW of solar power capacity for Anglian Water Services so as to help the water company become carbon-neutral by 2030.

The two firms have signed an agreement after NextEra Capital won a competitive process, which it claims was the largest tender for on-site solar photovoltaic (PV) power in the UK so far. Under the deal, NextEnergy Capital will be tasked with the design, construction, operation and ownership of the photovoltaic (PV) plants that will be installed on Anglian Water’s sites.

After the installations become operational, the water services provider, which is active in the East of England region, will purchase their output, getting the electricity through a private wire arrangement for 25 years.

NextEnergy Solar Fund Ltd (LON:NESF) will provide financing for the project and will be the power plants’ owner.
