European renewables developer-operator Aquila Clean Energy has obtained construction permits to build upwards of 700 MWp of solar photovoltaic plants across Spain.

The permitted capacity is divided between five projects, located in the provinces of Cordoba, Granada, Toledo, Palencia and Leon, Aquila Clean Energy said in a press release on Friday.

Details about the individual projects were not shared. According to a report by Andalusia-based media outlet Diario de Sevilla, the project in Granada will bring 244 MWp, while the one in Cordoba will create a 138-MWp solar farm.

Aquila Clean Energy, part of German investment manager Aquila Group, says it has more than 3,000 MW of projects under development in Spain.

"Obtaining the authorisations for these plants is great news for our company and for the provinces where these projects are located. They represent a major step forward in our strategy in Spain and underline our commitment to a just energy transition. These projects will have a dynamic effect on the local economies and societies in these regions", Jorge de Miguel, Head of Development and Construction for Aquila Clean Energy in Spain, said in Friday’s statement.
