ARENA to provide USD 19m for studies to cut industrial emissions

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) is making available up to AUD 25 million (USD 19.3m/EUR 15.9m) in grant funding under the initial round of the Industrial Energy Transformation Studies Programme.

The AUD-43-million programme, included in the 2020/2021 federal budget, seeks to help the industrial sector lower energy costs and emissions.

The first round will open to applications on July 6, the government agency said on Tuesday. It will support feasibility and engineering studies for replicable energy efficiency and decarbonisation projects. Companies from the agriculture, mining, manufacturing, gas supply, water supply, waste services and data centre sectors can participate.

Feasibility studies can get between AUD 100,000 and AUD 500,000 in funding, and engineering studies from AUD 250,000 to AUD 5 million.

"While we’re at the early stages of helping industry transition to increased use of renewable energy, this programme will allow us to get a better idea of the innovative solutions out there that can help to reduce emissions and deliver transformative change in the sector," said ARENA chief executive Darren Miller.
